It’s OK for someone not to like the same books you like, and it’s really annoying to hear, “I can’t believe you haven’t read XYZ!!” about a book that just doesn’t interest you. Read Deirdre Coyle’s excellent essay on the men who insist women need to read Infinite Jest.
How do crime novels contribute to the normalization of police violence and violations of constitutional rights? I don’t usually read police procedurals, at least not ones set in the U.S.; I prefer mysteries with amateur detectives or ones set in other countries. But I thought these two authors, John Fram and Aya De Leon, made some good points about crime writing.
A convergence of some of my favorite things.
