A Sad DNF

I very much enjoyed Phoebe Robinson’s first book, You Can’t Touch My Hair and Other Things I Still Have to Explain, so I bought her second one, Everything’s Trash, But It’s Okay. I just couldn’t finish it, though. I kept it around for MONTHS thinking I would pick it up again, and because it’s a series of essays, it’s easy to pick up and read intermittently.

Finally I stopped trying to make myself finish it. I think the problem is that I’m just a little too old (or just too uncool?) for it. It’s full of Robinson’s trademark slang and word-shortening, and that didn’t work for me. It might work better as an audiobook–her tone is certainly conversational. She makes excellent points about a range of issues, some serious and some lighter, but I couldn’t get past the style.
